Which application did Sheldon show you? We have one that calls out and one that takes external calls and integrates them into a website. Asterisk has so much cool functionality there is a lot that can be done with it.

Hey Ryan,

I couldn't get your app to work but Sheldon explained what it does. Quite cool! We've written some internal scripts which take a phone number and a logged in user (to grab their extension) and dial numbers from within a CMS direct to the users phone. No more keypad mashing or dialing the wrong numbers!

I'm a believer in technology which makes like simpler without getting in the way, and Asterisk surely meets that criteria!

I'd be interested to find out what other cool things people are doing which are outside the square.

I love Asterisk myself. Thanks to my savvy friend Rob we are using Asterisk for some really fun web related stuff that I never would’ve even thought possible… At least not anything I would have imagined I could create. One website uses Asterisk to record voice and the other uses it to make phone calls when specified with a pre recorded message. Both of these are really cool functions but just the tip of the iceberg on what it is capable of.

Good post, I like all of these applications, and use them all on a daily basis also. One note about Skype is that is messaging protocol is encrypted so that all those messages you send are secure, and its file transfer is by far, faster than any other IM system around!

I use 2 VoIP systems, one which Totali set up and VoIP is great!
